Real talk: While working out is great for the mind, it can wreak havoc on your skin and hair.
Sweat can lead to skin breakouts and constantly washing, drying and styling your hair can leave your color faded and strands dry.
Coupled with time crunches, my mid-30s, and almost daily workouts and/or teaching… I am constantly on the hunt for products that allow me to live my best skin and hair life.
So, while it may seem vain, I’ve spent a LOT of time researching and trying various products to prevent clogged pores, breakouts and damaged hair.
My wallet’s sadness is your skin’s happiness and all products below are ones I use religiously and recommend highly.
#tbt to high school, I know. I’ve tried a lot of pads with salicylic acid and I keep coming back to these. They quickly clean your skin and leave it so fresh and so clean (clean!). The best part is they aren’t drying or causing my skin to be irritated.
How I Use: when my skin is breaking out, during that time of the month, when my pores are feeling clogged, after a lunchtime workout and I have to head back to the office and/or it’s been particularly sweaty workout.
A Pilates client turned me on to this brand. TBH, I was quite skeptical because it’s a network marketing company.
However, she is amazing and smart and accomplished and lived in England where the brand is in a brick and mortar store. All that is to say… I trust her judgment.
Welp, I am OBSESSED. My favorite scent of all time is frankincense so I am absolutely crazy over that line (they have a lot of other amazing scents I’m also obsessed with).
This cleanser is gentle but effective and leaves my face feeling smooth like a baby’s butt (is that a weird thing to say? Probably).
How I Use: during the winter, dry weather, when I’m slacking on the H20, or when my face is feeling super dry, when I need moisturizing.
I tried this on a whim one night during a bout with insomnia that led to my skin freaking out. Apparently sleeping less than 4 hours a night a week straight is NOT good for you. (Who could have predicted that?)
With over 10,000 four and five star reviews and an affordable price point, I figured “why not?”. All I have to say: this is one of the BEST finds of my life. It promises to reduce fine lines, dark spots, and sun spots and increase brightness and firmness. It does all of that. I noticed results within a week.
How I Use: every day.
One day I went to a workout class with a friend, which turned into brunch, which turned into an impromptu Sephora shopping trip. I walked by the stand at the checkout counter with all the trial size items and bought these on a whim. GAME CHANGER.
This two-step system promised to smooth my skin while evening out skin tone and reducing lines, wrinkles, and pores. How could I resist? The first time I tried it I was shocked at how smooth my skin was and how radiant it looked. The results were almost as good as a professional facial.
How I Use: Once a week (usually Sundays) or if I have a big event (lol @ “big event”…)
It’s impossible for me to wash my hair as much as I workout or teach. If I did that, I’d be washing/drying/styling my hair twice a day sometimes (gross #humblebrag, sorry). So, I count on dry shampoo to save my life.
I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos in search of one that lets me go an ungodly amount of time in between washings. This Bumble and Bumble shampoo doesn’t build up, is lightweight, and you can’t see it on your scalp when you spray it.
Also available from Amazon.
How I use: When I don’t have time to shower and/or I’m feeling like a garbage person and don’t want to shower
I like to switch my hair products up. I’m not sure if it’s an old wives’ tale but I do think it prevents my hair from getting buildup and “used to” a certain product.
Am I crazy for that belief? Probably. \_(ツ)_/¯
Living Proof is my go-to alternative to Bumble and Bumble with a lower price point. Between these two dry shampoos, I can go (insert embarrassingly amount of time here) between hair washing.
4:30 a.m. comes pretty early and leads to some intense under eye bags for me. I’d been searching for an under eye product that removed bags and puffiness and found Baebody Gel on Amazon (pretty much my favorite site ever, if you couldn’t tell).
This gel reduced the dark circles under my eyes and made them feel refreshed even after an early morning.
How I Use: whenever I have an early morning teaching and/or workout session.
I’ve been a Clearasil user for a VERY long time. However, in my “old age” I found it drying and ineffective. Because of my love for TruSkin Vitamin C Serum, I decided to try this skin clearing serum. With vitamin c, retinal, and salicylic acid this not only cleared my skin but helped gave me anti-aging protection.
I quickly ditched my junior high staple of Clearasil and became a convert of TruSkin.
How I Use: Whenever I’m battling breakouts.
I’d been searching for a moisturizers that didn’t cause me to break out but penetrated my skin. I decided to try these moisturizers from Neal’s Yard Remedy on the recommendation of a Pilates client and, much like the cleanser, I was hooked.
Both are anti-aging and remove fine lines, including my much hated crow’s feet. My love language is a funny joke but can we cool it on the laugh lines body? K thx.
How I Use: Daily
Post gym my face can feel dull which is why I love this facial spray by Mario Badescu. It brightens and tones so my post workout glow lasts a little longer. This spray does wonders for my complexion!
Are there any must have products I should try for my post workout routine? Let me know — I’ll try them all!
